A post shared by Milap Zaveri (@milapzaveri) onOct 30, 2020 at 8:08pm PDT

The film also stars Harsh Chhaya and Divya Khosla Kumar. In the first instalment, Abraham played a cop-killing vigilante.

Earlier, Milap Zaveri, who is shooting in Lucknow for Satyamev Jayate 2, had said, "On the first day, we will shoot only with the lead pair, but subsequently other actors like Harsh Chhaya, Gautami Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa, Anup Soni, and Sahil Vaid will join in. We will be shooting across Lucknow, including heritage structures like palaces and colleges. Some of the live locations will be completely sealed off, so crowd gazers cannot sneak in. Only our cast and crew will be present on the spot."

Producer Bhushan Kumar acknowledges the challenge but is confident stringent SoPs will create a safe shooting environment. "It will be scary for the crew at live locations, but it is important to give our audience some entertainment during this pandemic," he said.

"When we decide to take a franchise forward, we have to be ready with larger-than-life stories and characters. This script is a notch higher and Milap has worked rigorously on the action scenes with John during lockdown," said the producer.

Mukesh Khanna: Job of a woman is to take care of the house; #MeToo began when women started working

Actor Mukesh Khanna is being slammed by netizens for saying that the MeToo movement began after women started stepping out for work.

The social movement against sexual abuse and sexual harassment gained prominence in India in 2018 when actress Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. Since then, several women in the Hindi film industry have named and shamed alleged perpetrators.

Talking about the movement in a video, which has gone viral on Twitter, Mukesh says: "Aurat ka kaam hai ghar sambhalna (The job of a woman is to take care of the house). Problem kahaan se shuru hue hai #MeToo ki jab auraton ne bhi kaam karna shuru kar diya (The problem of #MeToo began when women started working). Aaj aurat mard ke saath kandhey se kandha milane ke baat karti hai (Today, women talk about walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men)."

The comment made by the actor, best known for playing the desi superhero Shaktimaan on the small screen, has left many netizens furious.

"And that stupid shaktimaan added value to the society eh? Wonder what kind of family he grew up in. Someone ask him why kids as young as 5-6 are raped then? Why even give a platform to these weak humans who are scared of women?" one wrote on Twitter.

"This people's mindset cannot be changed. He has acted in such mythological drama but he didn't learn anything. He doesn't have the right to pray any goddess. People with this type of mindset insult women but pray goddess, Is this making any sense?" questioned another.

Another wrote: "Never ever heard of such a disgusting misogynistic and patriarchal comment. Lost all respects for you."

"Such misogynist...Problem is your mentality. #MeToo #metooindia problem arises bc people like you exist in our society. Certainly no respect," another wrote.

Five years after her Bollywood debut in Smeep Kang's Second Hand Husband, opposite Punjabi actor-singer Gippy Grewal, Tina Ahuja returns with another film titled, Driving Me Crazy.

"It's a slice-of-life film," says Govinda's daughter, who features in the short film, which recently dropped on Zee5. Revolving around youngsters, "who are hooked to online dating apps in a quest to find love", the short also features television actors Mudit Nayar and Shrashti Maheshwari. "I play a modern-day girl, who is confident enough to make her own choices," she adds. Evil Eye makers: Was an empowering feminist tale from start

Priyanka Chopra Jonas's and Blumhouse Productions' latest horror thriller Evil Eye marries traditional Hindi film tropes like reincarnation and the cycle of karma with a powerful feminist message. Directors Rajeev and Elan Dassani say they loved writer Madhuri Shekar's concept that used a mother's fear of her daughter getting into the wrong relationship to make a larger point about domestic abuse. "It speaks of the mother's own traumas, and her fear that her once abusive relationship would have cursed her daughter. We used the supernatural to explore societal issues like domestic abuse," begins Rajeev.

The director duo credits actors Sunita Mani and Sarita Choudhury for enhancing the material considerably. The road, however, was laden with challenges. Rajeev says creating a supernatural thriller without legitimising superstitions was a tricky slope. "We wanted to use superstitions as a storytelling tool, but also respect that many believe in horoscopes and these ideas."

The film drives home the point that the onus of abuse is never on the woman. "What mattered the most to us was the film's message. It was crucial to show Usha [Choudhury's character] that she did not need to blame herself for what happened to her when she was younger, and that she and her daughter had the strength to transcend men like Sandeep [boyfriend]," adds Rajeev. Elan seconds the idea as he states, "It has been an empowering feminist tale from the beginning."

Priyanka Chopra

With Chopra backing it, the Amazon Prime Video offering has desi roots. Quiz Elan on how the movie furthers the depiction of ethnic stories on the world screen, and he says, "We hope the film can show people that cultural stories can be told in different genres, without dwelling too much on the culture itself—that is just another part of the story. That said, we're always worried about portraying characters authentically. Here, we did our homework and strived to present this world as accurately as possible to the lived experience of many Indians and Indian-Americans."

Fatima Sana Shaikh: Was molested at the age of 3; was told I can get work only by sex

The casting couch is a dark and depressing reality of the Hindi film industry that has time and again exposed the grime tucked beneath the glamour. Some of the most successful actors and actresses have gone through this horrific process and exposed this brutal truth.

Fatima Sana Shaikh recently revealed that she was sexually molested at the tender age of three. She recalled the horrific incident in an interview with Pinkvilla. She said, "I was molested when I was just three years old. There is a stigma around the whole sexual abuse issue, which is why women don't open up about being exploited in life. But I hope, today the world changes. There is more awareness and education about it. Pehle toh yehi kaha jaata tha that don't speak about it. People will think about it differently."

Recalling her casting couch experience, the Dangal actress said, "Of course, I have faced the casting couch. I have been in situations where I have been told that the only way I get the job is by having sex. There are several times people have taken away work from me. There have also been times where I knew I was doing a film and I was replaced because of someone's reference."

Fatima isn't the only actress who has faced the horror of the casting couch. In a recent interview, Upasana Singh shared her experience. She is known for her roles in hit films of the 90s like Judaai, Mr and Mrs Khiladi, Sarfarosh, Deewana Mastana, and so many more. She said, "In this industry, there are girls who are willing to compromise. I find it weird when I hear actresses say they were forced. No one forces you, you make a choice. Once a famous South Indian producer propositioned me and called me to his office late at night. I banged the phone on him and the next morning, barged into his office and screamed at him. He was shocked. I've left films as I never compromised. I believe if you have talent, you will get work and I always got a lot of good work."

Popular television actress Rashami Desai had also faced casting couch issues early in her career. Recalling the incident in an interview, she said, "I still remember that I was told if you don't go through casting couch, you won't get work. His name is Suraj and I don't know where he's now. First time we met, he asked me about my statistics and I didn't know what it meant back then. I told him I don't know and he knew that she's completely unaware of things. He was the first person who tried taking advantage of me and tried to molest me in some or the other way."

She added, "One day, he called me for an audition and I was all excited. There were no cameras and he tried his level best to spike my drink and get me unconscious. I kept saying I don't want to do. Somehow, he wanted to psych my mind. From there, I managed to come out after two and a half hours and I told my mother everything. Next day, we went to meet him again and this time, my mother slapped him."

It really takes a lot of courage for a celebrity to come out in the open and talk about the dark days of his or her life.

Talking about Fatima Sana Shaikh, the actress was last seen in the 2018-film Thugs of Hindostan. She will be next seen in Ludo and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari.

Pooja Hegde on bagging Rohit Shetty's Cirkus opposite Ranveer Singh: Work attracted more work

Pooja Hegde is amused that her date diary is chock-a-block in the middle of a pandemic. Currently filming Radhe Shyam in Italy, she will kick off the shoot of Rohit Shetty's Cirkus when she returns to the bay next month. "I love Rohit Shetty films. My dad and I watched Simmba together, and we were hooting at Ajay Devgn's entry. I had first met Rohit at Ramoji [Film City] in Hyderabad a few years ago. This offer came my way out of the blue," says Hegde, who will team up with Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez and Varun Sharma in the laugh riot.

Ranve

Given how different the worlds of Shakespeare and Shetty are, one wonders what The Comedy of Errors looks like when viewed through the filmmaker's lens. "It will be a masala film; it's his version rather than an adaptation. Plus, we have a complimentary dose of Ranveer's energy on set," she laughs.

Rohitt

After making her Bollywood debut with Mohenjo Daro (2016), Hegde went missing from the Hindi film circuit, resurfacing last year with Housefull 4. Ask her how she emerged stronger after the debacle of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer, and she says, "An actor's first film is their show-reel to the world. I was under contract, so I hadn't signed another film during the period. Its failure was heart-breaking. Eventually, South films came along, and work attracted more work. I held off signing Hindi films because I needed a sturdy second movie. I built on the success of Housefull 4, and here I am!"

Black Diwali for theatre owners; Maharashtra government extends lockdown till November 30

on Thursday, the Maharashtra government extended the lockdown in the state till November 30 with no further relaxations. For exhibitors in the state who have lost crores of rupees in the eight months of theatre shutdown, the move spells doom as Diwali is the most profitable period for business. Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 multiplex in Bandra, says, "Our business shoots up during this period, but it's a black Diwali this year. [On paper], I have eight theatres standing, but in reality, we are broke."

Akshaye Rathi, who owns cinemas in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, notes that the exhibition and distribution sector had earned R250 crore last Diwali owing to the three festival releases — Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh and Made in China. As another bleak month awaits him this year, he has no option but to let go of his staff. Rathi indicates that the discrimination against movie halls is unfair as he asks, "Are cinemas the only place where the virus spreads? Everything else has reopened — be it metros, salons, and even trains."

Indoo Ki Jawani and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari were eyeing a theatrical run
Indoo Ki Jawani and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari were eyeing a theatrical run

With trade and filmmakers optimistic that the doors of cinemas would be thrown open from November 1, it was heard that Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari — besides its digital premiere — would hit screens over the Diwali weekend. Similarly, Kiara Advani's Indoo Ki Jawani was slated for a late November release. As the fate of these two films hangs in the balance, Rathi adds, "The trailer of Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari doesn't mention anything about the film releasing in cinemas. So, there is no [clarity]."

The decision is bound to spark a chain reaction across the country — with Maharashtra being the biggest market, other filmmakers are likely to hold off the release of their upcoming offerings, thus leaving theatre owners in other states devoid of new releases. Raj Kumar Mehrotra, CEO, Delite Cinemas, Delhi, that re-started its operations on October 16, says each show sees barely 10 per cent occupancy. "We are running in losses. Where the 50 per cent capacity translates to 490 seats in our cinema, we barely see 30 to 40 people per show. Over the weekend, the footfall increases to 15 per cent."

Gurmeet Singh Seble of Seble Cinema, Delhi, urges the Multiplex Association of India to rethink its decision of not screening OTT films. "It will do wonders for us if we can screen Akshay Kumar's Laxmii. Nobody wants to watch past blockbusters. We need new films."

Kubbra Sait: I gatecrashed Ranveer Singh's wedding with an invitation

The lockdown has us all bingeing on OTT shows at a speed and intensity like never before, enjoying new narratives, bold stories and some brilliant performances by the finest actors. In the latest episode of Filmfare Spotlight, Sacred Games fame Kubbra Sait is seen spilling some beans.

The versatile star looked back fondly at her journey from Sacred Games to Jaawani Jaanemaan and shared some precious memories from the sets of Sacred Games. She recalled one such instance where Nawazuddin Siddiqui didn't recognise her. She said, "I remember once I had not worn my wig and my hair was big, and with my curls and I went and sat next to him and he didn't recognise me. He looked away, went away and went back to looking on his phone, and 5 mins later I asked, 'Do you want to say hi to me?' And he was like, 'Arre aap hai.' And I went like, 'Haan mai hu'. And then he says 'Nai wo aapka Taam Jhaam nai tha (referring to her wig) so didn't realise it was you."

Raving about Ranveer Singh, she shared a funny story with him and said, "I met him many eons ago when I was hosting a show in a crowd of 5000 people. You don't imagine to be remembered by a superstar of that order when you are hosting a show, but he remembered me. Then when Sacred Games released he actually texted me and I lost my plot. He told me like Kya Boss you are a daredevil. And you know what I told him in return, 'Ya, don't forget to invite me to your wedding.' So that's how I think I earned myself an invite and he was very generous and kind. I would like to say, I gate crashed his wedding with an invitation."

Watch her chat on all these topics along with many lesser-known facts about the iconic show Sacred Games. New episodes every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 12 pm exclusively on Filmfare's social media platforms.
