Serious Men Movie Review: My favourite men; seriously

Serious Men
On: Netflix
Director: Sudhir Mishra
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aakshath Dasi
Rating:Rating

The science in Serious Men revolves around the possibility of microbes existing beyond the atmosphere. Which could prove, one, that there is life outside earth. And that these microbes in fact are life-threatening to humans, the origin of which has baffled medical science thus far.

You see Indian TV news crews deeply interested/excited about all of this — standing outside the science institute etc, covering the story. And this is the sci-fi portion of the movie, actually. Given that there are indeed life-threatening microbes attacking humans, as we speak, while Indian news television is currently obsessed with recreational smoking habits of movie-stars!

That's life as we know it. No, don't wanna say truth's stranger than fiction and all. But for the fact that certain kinda fiction does make sense of truth better than others. This film is one of them.

At the core of it, is a Bombay/BDD chawl man of Tamilian descent, Ayyan Mani, working as a private assistant (PA) to a scientist (Nassar), at what sounds like the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.

This Mani man, like there's the first-generation rich, is first-generation educated — pinning his hopes on his next generation, to scale the wall of wealth, and whatever else. In a way that it would seem like an act of love/care — if you don't recognise the obvious narcissism, which is really what all overbearing nurturing is!

Lifting his child like Simba against sunlight that doesn't exist, he's determined to make the world anoint his boy a genius. Now I'm not going to reveal much about this kid character — but the boy (Aakshath Das) playing him, so wholly unaffected on screen, does seem like a wonder performer of sorts!

Between these central parts, and a fine ensemble (Mani's wife, Indira Tiwari, in particular), plays out a reasonably tight, neatly shot, two-hour film, nimbly touching on subjects as diverse as passionate parenting, to Dalit politics — that's no different from all other politics, playing out simultaneously.

The die is cast, or caste, from birth. As are certain aspects of the movie — the fact that this is a subtle, mature satire, rather than LOL comedy of manners (would've enjoyed some of the latter too). That in all its overt simplicity, this is also a complex story — about failure, first; and on the underclass, only later.

The minor advisory being that you're better off entering this, without preconceived expectations of a set-up/pay-off from a suspense-thriller — about a father, his boss, media, other hawks, and the son. The plot is just a device to see a film also for what it's trying to say.

Which, to my mind, is summed up best in the minute/moment where Ayyan Mani models his chawl's Ganpati idol on the Statue of Liberty. Quick to take offense, a fellow dweller deems this as blasphemy. Soon as that guy spells out his concern, Ayyan blasts the shit out of him — mixing his own response with nari shakti, desh bhakti, Rani Laxmibai, walking away unscathed, silencing the crowd at the same time.

Watch the trailer Serious Men:

His son delivers a similar bombast on stuff even he doesn't understand. But because he's loud, he looks convincing, and the crowd is convinced. Look at Ayyan's boy closely — in a suit jacket, well-groomed/gelled hair, wearing square-rimmed glasses… Looks like that nut-job television anchor, who behaves no differently from the President of America. It's all the same: 'Hyper-bol ki lab azaad hain tere!'

Punning on Faiz, because this is a Sudhir Mishra film, whose most loved title still remains the one inspired by Ghalib, Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi (2005). In what seems like a rather prescient filmography — he made Dharavi (1993), 15 years before Slumdog Millionaire; Bombay gangsta rapchik, Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996), before Satya (1998); more recently, Inkaar (2013) on workplace sexual dynamics/harassment, half a decade before #MeToo…

I could see Serious Men almost like a psychological treatise of the times. The hero isn't apologetic about his class/caste. He wears it on his sleeve, instead. The world around isn't so easily segregated between old/new-world predators and preys, either. It's all frickin' mixed up. Ambition's a bitch. The only way to get to the top is to work your way around it.

The film is based on the novel of the same name, by Manu Joseph — in my opinion, the most unpredictable, therefore original, writer/columnist around. That originality of take/thought/worldview surely seeps into this movie.

I remember the book primarily as an internalised, urban workplace drama — about a boss, sleeping with a female colleague, another fellow sandwiched between, and petty politics surrounding it all. Had left me deeply disturbed — almost mirroring my own work life at the time!

Although one would've liked even more of it, this outdoorsy, gentle script (by Bhavesh Mandalia) bears much swag. Chiefly, because Nawazuddin Siddiqui essays Ayyan Mani, on whom the film version is entirely based.

Nawaz (Sacred Games; most recently, Raat Akeli Hai) is possibly the best thing to happen to Netflix, outside America — since Narcos, maybe. You can so get used to him.

Yet, this is an absolutely new Nawaz — even from The Lunchbox, which could well have been a similar Bombay character.

Do treat this checklist as a professional disclaimer —Nawaz, Joseph, Mishra… These are absolutely my favourite men — all in one frickin' film. Could I possibly be "unbiased/objective", as it were? Guess not. Did consider not reviewing at all! But that would be taking oneself as seriously as the men Ayyan Mani surveys!

R. Madhavan: Very hurt with what happened with Sushant Singh Rajput, justice needs to be given

After the unfortunate demise of Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14, a lot of actors and filmmakers of the Hindi film industry have spoken another the scathing incident and justice has to be given to the late actor. And the recent actor to talk about it is R. Madhavan.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, he spoke about his hurt of losing the actor and how justice has to be served. He said, "I am very hurt with what happened with Sushant Singh Rajput and definitely justice needs to be given for a situation like that. On that front I am happy that so much attention has been drawn."

He added, "I don't agree with everything that has been done with the case because I feel that I want to remember Sushant as the strong powerful guy that I met for a few times only, but I remember him as a guy full of energy. I wish that memory of him was kept alive instead of all the things being said about him."

After the Mumbai Police, the Central Bureau of Investigation and Narcotics Control Bureau have stepped in for investigating the case and talking about this, and the attacks that have been made on Bollywood celebrities on social media, the actor said, "Of course, the entire industry is being rattled because of all the other investigations happening. I don't want to add to the chaos. I really believe that India is in the right hands when it comes to our agencies. I am very confident that they will come up with absolute truth as far as Sushant's demise is concerned."

Coming to Rajput, success happened pretty early in the form of Pavitra Rishta, a very famous and popular television show. After Pavitra Rishta and its subsequent success, it was Bollywood calling for Rajput and he made a gripping debut with 2013's Kai Po Che. A resonating, relevant film that explored the themes of friendship, religion, and hope, Rajput delivered a confident, charismatic performance and it was immediately announced that a new star had arrived on the block.

There was no looking back for the actor then. He went on to do films like Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya, and Chhichhore. His most memorable performance came in 2016 when he took the challenge to emulate the physical and emotional nuances of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his biopic, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. Lauded by fans and critics alike for his effective and energetic performance, Rajput nailed such a complex character with ease and aplomb.

Ali Abbas Zafar: Yash Raj Films is fully run by outsiders

Ali Abbas Zafar began his career as a director with Yash Raj Films' Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in 2011, which starred Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Ali Zafar in crucial roles. He then went on to make films like Gunday, Sultan, Bharat, and Tiger Zinda Hai. He now has multiple projects coming up like the Mr. India reboot, a Superhero film with Katrina Kaif, and a web series called Dilli with Saif Ali Khan.

And in an interview with Supriya Nair of midday.com, Zafar spoke about how the Yash Raj Films is completely run by outsiders while talking about the insider and outsider debate in the Hindi film industry. First talking about the process of making a mark for himself in Bollywood, he said, "In my career, I've been fortunate enough and God has been very kind."

Watch the interview right here:

He added, "I've worked with the best lot of the industry, thanks to Aditya Chopra who's instrumental in making me who I'm today. I think it's a creative industry no matter where you come from. If you don't have that bone in you of originating something from nothing, whether you're a director, a writer, a cameraman. The famous joke in the industry is that it's run by people from North and Delhi."

He then said that YRF is fully run by outsiders, this is how he started, "This is a joke in YRF too because if you see all the directors, Kabir Khan, Vijay Krishna Acharya, Maneesh Sharma, Habib Faizal, we all have studied there. This whole insider and outsider thing means Yash Raj is fully run by outsiders. This is a joke, at least creatively."

Unlock 5.0: Bollywood rejoices as cinemas are allowed to open at 50 percent capacity

Bollywood celebrities and the film trade expressed joy on Wednesday evening as news spread that the Union Home Ministry has allowed cinemas, theatres and multiplexes to reopen with 50 per cent seating capacity from October 15.

"The best news of the week!!!! (sic)" tweeted Abhishek Bachchan.

Actress Divya Dutta wrote: "Yayyyyy did I hear the theatres are reopening!!!! (sic)"

Ever since the nationwide lockdown was imposed in March, theatres have been shut.

Ashish Saksena, COO, Cinemas, BookMyShow, issued a statement saying: "We welcome the government's decision to open up the cinema and entertainment industry. This move will bring immense relief to scores of employees across the sector which has been one of the worst hit, through this pandemic."

"BookMyShow recognises that we are in extraordinary times and is mindful of social distancing and sanitisation amongst other factors. The health and safety of all - from cine-goers to cinema partners, production houses and execution agencies - will be of paramount importance and BookMyShow will uphold all SOPs as mandated for our users' safe movie watching experience," the statement added.

PV Sunil, Managing Director, Carnival Cinemas, is also happy.

"We are very happy with this news as we have been waiting for this for quite sometime. Business has been affected so badly but I would say this is the right time to open up with Diwali around the corner. 50 per cent capacity is better than what we had thought would be allowed earlier. In fact, we had been proposing a 50 per cent capacity. It is in keeping up with the norm of every other industry. Most of the countries are also following the same norm. As of now, our software is being modified in accordance with that so that the audience have a seamless experience while booking tickets online," he said.

However, to open up, there is a lot of work to be done.

"The good part is that separate teams handle each property and we also have two weeks, it seems sufficient time for us to prepare. As it is, we have planned for the reopening all this while, so there shouldn't be a problem. While couple of state governments are yet to give a go ahead on the reopening of theatres, we are likely to open all the major properties in other states in the stipulated time. On the content side, the producers are already having conversations about releasing the films. We have limited time slots, so the content shouldn't be a problem. In the first few weeks, there may not be an overflow of content but things would resume to normalcy soon," said Sunil.

Juhi Chawla: My kids are embarrassed to see my films, especially the earlier ones

One would think having a gorgeous, talented and popular actress as your mom would be something of an exciting thing and one would be a fan of her work by default. However, this doesn't seem to be the case with Juhi Chawla and her children. Apparently, Juhi's kids - Jahnavi and Arjun Mehta - try not to watch any of her films!

In a recent interview with ETimes, Juhi Chawla revealed, "Actually, they are very embarrassed to see my films, especially the earlier ones. In fact, my husband (Jai Mehta) told them to watch Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke saying that it's quite a cute film."

She added, "Then, Arjun asked me, 'Mom is there romance in that film?' and I was like, 'yes, it is a romantic comedy.' To this he replied, 'I don't want to see your films that feature romance. It gets very strange. So, I am not going to watch any of your films.' And that's it! They don't want to watch any of my films."

Can you believe it? Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke was one of the cutest, most fun movies of the 90s, don't you think?

Main Krishna Hoon and Chalk n Duster were the only two films Juhi's kids liked her in, says the actress. "They had a good time there. As far as the latter is concerned, after watching that film Arjun told me that it was nice and I was really good in the film. I was on cloud nine as I did not expect such a reaction from him," she concludes.

Anees Bazmee on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2: It's not easy to get a property in October to build a set

After going back and forth over their plans, the unit of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is set to begin filming in Mumbai next month. Though he had initially wanted to resume shooting in Lucknow to maintain continuity of the Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-fronted horror comedy, director Anees Bazmee reconsidered his decision after working out the logistics of the shoot.

"It's safer to shoot in a controlled environment in Mumbai. We plan to complete the indoor portions here. So, we will construct sets in the city, replicating the interiors of the haveli that we had built in Lucknow. The producers [Murad Khetani and Bhushan Kumar] feel that our last schedule can be in Lucknow, where we can film the necessary outdoor shots," says Bazmee, who has picked up the directorial baton from Priyadarshan for the sequel to the 2007 Akshay Kumar-starrer. The latest instalment also features Anil Kapoor and Tabu.

However, building a set in the city is proving to be an uphill task for the team. "We have been looking for plots of land, but most of these locations have already been booked for shoots. It's not easy to get a property in October to build a set because many producers are kicking off new projects," says Bazmee, who is hoping to zero in on a location soon and wrap up the 15-day schedule.

Mukesh Khanna: Shaktimaan has to be bigger than Krrish, Ra.One

Years before we started rooting for the Avengers or exchanged notes on their superpowers with our friends, we used to be glued to our television screens, marvelling at the only superhero we knew — Shaktimaan. Almost 15 years since the Doordarshan show went off the air, actor-producer Mukesh Khanna and the original team are reuniting to create a three-film franchise. The first instalment of the trilogy is likely to go on floors in the second half of 2021.

"Kids across the country write to me, requesting that I create a new season of the series. I know the excitement around the subject hasn't dwindled. Shaktimaan is the first Indian superhero, after all. The makers of Krrish had Rs 150 crore [to make the film] and I didn't, which is why it took so long to develop the plan. Now, everything is slowly falling in place. The project should have rolled by now, but the pandemic disrupted our plans," says Khanna, who played a meek photojournalist and his superhero alter ego in the popular show that began airing in 1997.

The senior artiste is said to be in advanced talks with one of the top actors from the young crop to step into the role. "I can't reveal who we are considering to play the new Shaktimaan. The final announcement will happen when the deal is sealed. Shaktimaan has to be bigger than Krrish and Ra.One [2011]. It has to be an Indian franchise with international standards."

(From left) Stills from Krrish and Ra.One
(From left) Stills from Krrish and Ra.One

The show's creators, Khanna and Dinker Jani will serve as the creative producers and are currently in the process of finalising a director who will be able to do justice to their ambitious movie. "We will work with our old team, too. The story spans from the Mahabharata till today. Our Satya Guru [Shaktimaan's original avatar] is 5,000 years old. Shaktimaan is made with paanchbhoota [the five elements of cosmic creation]. We've started building the modern story on the concept where a young timid boy goes on to become [invincible]."

Shahid Kapoor to turns into a producer with a digital offering?

Though the glorification of toxic masculinity in Kabir Singh (2019) had raised many eyebrows, there's no denying that Shahid Kapoor dominated the box-office with the runaway hit. A year on, having sealed his place as a bankable Bollywood star, it is heard that the actor is set to take a leap of faith and turn producer.

Over the past few months, Kapoor has apparently been in talks with a leading OTT giant for a multi-project deal. "He is expected to headline three offerings, thus foraying into digital entertainment. Shahid, who has been considering turning producer for a while, is keen to bankroll one of the projects with the OTT platform. He has begun the groundwork to set up his studio," reveals a source. It may be recalled that in 2019, Kapoor was to graduate to production with a biopic on the Manipuri boxer, Ngangom Dingko Singh, and had acquired the rights to his story. However, the film with director Raja Krishna Menon has yet to go on floors.

Serious Men movie review: My favourite men; seriously

Serious Men
On: Netflix
Dir: Sudhir Mishra

Watch the trailer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aakshath Dasi starrer Serius Men here

Vikrant Massey talks about his intimate scenes with Bhumi Pednekar: Physical comfort was not an issue

Alankrita Shrivastava's Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare released on Netflix on September 12 and received mixed reviews. The film stars Konkona Sensharma and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead, who play cousins, besides talented actors like Vikrant Massey, Amol Parashar, Kubbra Sait, Karan Kundra, Neelima Azeem, among others.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Vikrant Massey spoke about the film and performing intimate scenes with Bhumi Pednekar in it. He shared, "The beauty of working on Alankrita's sets is that she knows what she wants. As an actor you are hired to enact those things and if you can enhance it then great. My priority is to make sure that the woman on the opposite side is comfortable. There are 7-8 people on sets who are watching you. These are very intimate, private moments, you are entering into someone's private space."

He added, "The only thing I was concerned about was my beard scratching her face. Trim karke I would get close to her, it would happen that she would have rashes on her neck and on her cheeks. So that's good. Physical comfort was not an issue. These were the little things, which is a great sign."

Speaking about his character in the film, Pradeep, Massey says each one of us has been like Pradeep at some point in our lives. He says, "All of us have been Pradeep in some way or the other, somewhere down the line. I know I have been. I have had a very generic upbringing like any other, regular middle-class guy. I believe that in life, not everyone looks at you the same way. Will I say there aren't people I have hurt in life? That would be wrong. I think I have. For some I might be a great guy, for some, I might be the worst guy on earth."

On the work front, Vikrant Massey was recently seen in Cargo, where he plays a 'rakshasa' going through an existential crisis.

Meera Chopra on Sushant Singh Rajput case: We should trust CBI and let them do their job

Actress Meera Chopra on Monday stated that people should trust the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and let the agency do its job in the Sushant Singh Rajput death probe. "Its extremely difficult to investigate a case where most of the evidence is destroyed or not there coz of time lapse. We should trust #cbi nd let them do their job. Common sentiment of the nation is to get justice in #SSRDeathCase nd iam sure authorities cant ignore that sentiment (sic)", Meera tweeted from her verified account.

Her tweet comes at a time when Sushant's fans are getting impatient while waiting for some solid information from the CBI. Alleging delay into the probe of Sushant's death, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday sought to know the status of the CBI probe, more than six weeks after it took up the investigation.

"We eagerly want to know... Even the people are now asking whether Sushant died by suicide or if he was murdered. We want the details of the CBI probe to come out," Deshmukh told mediapersons.

Sushant's family lawyer Vikas Singh had also tweeted from his unverified account on Friday citing a delay in the CBI probe.

"Getting frustrated by the delay in CBI taking a decision to convert abetment to suicide to Murder of SSR. The Doctor who is part of AIIMS team had told me long back that the photos sent by me indicated 200% that it's death by strangulation and not suicide," Singh had tweeted.

Tanushree Dutta and Ishaan Khatter chronicle their struggle with weight management

I had to consume as much as 2,700 calories a day: Ishaan Khatter

Khaali Peeli actor Ishaan Khatter has such a high metabolic rate that he was once called on by the camera-person to notice how his frame had consistently depleted over a 23-hour long shooting schedule for a song sequence. "From the first shot to the last, the change was noticeable. I recall, I had to eat like a pig to gain six kilos for the film, and doing so with a high BMR was hard," says the actor, who had to acquire the bulky frame for his act of a taxi driver in the romantic drama starring Ananya Panday.

Khatter's fitness journey can be traced to his early teens when, like brother Shahid Kapoor, he too landed at the studio of Shiamak Davar. After a bunch of summer workshops, he completed a year-long dance intensive, involving sessions that ran 12 to 14 hours. When he was 16, he began tailing Kapoor into his gym, where the latter encouraged him to take to body-weight exercises to refine his skills.

"I essentially took to callisthenics and Parkour-based movements. I trained in various disciplines, and in outdoor spaces, like parks. The only time I incorporated weight-training into my routine was to add weight for this film," says the actor, who accompanied Kapoor to the Antigravity Club in Bandra to train under the guidance of trainers and brothers Yudi and Karan Jaising, and Siddhant Sidhwani.

If losing muscle mass was a concern, Khatter was advantaged in that he could seamlessly gain it back on as well. "We did compound [movements] like squats, shoulder presses, and weighted pulls-ups and dips. My muscles reacted quickly, and I broke PRs [personal records] fast. It was a great period of growth. The [team] monitored my nutrition, and for the first time, I emphasised on sleeping for long hours. Usually, I can't sleep [well], but I ensured that I got eight hours of rest, at least in the initial days. That helped with muscle-growth and weight-gain."

However, none of the toil that Khatter put in would bear fruit had it not been supplemented with the appropriate diet, which, in his case, meant eating abundantly, "often, three to four times the amount I would burn". "[The training had to be] supported by a caloric surplus. I had no supplements, barring one vegan, gut-healthy protein blend. I had to consume as much as 2,700 calories a day. Given that we would travel three hours a day to reach our location, which was followed by a 14-hour shoot, often involving intense physical sequences, I needed to train to maintain the gained weight. Almost each day, I had to eat a burger over and above my dinner [to meet the caloric requirement]."

Having subsequently taken to an ayurvedic detox diet, Khatter ended up losing nine kilos, instead of the six he sought to get rid of. "I need to look young for my next [film], hence a lean frame is needed."

Will now work on attaining chiselled frame: Dutta

Tanushree
Tanushree Dutta - Before and After

After a visit to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple towards the close of 2019 inspired Tanushree Dutta to take to day-long fasts on Mondays, the actor noticed how "resetting" the body on a weekly basis was helping her look, and feel different. Having harboured the desire to return to cinema, Dutta decided to leverage the development and continue to refine her eating habits to bring about a physical transformation.

"I subsequently took to weight-training with a fitness professional in Mumbai. I used to [lift] when I was working in Bollywood, and hence knew that weight-training brings about noticeable physical change. Apart from lifting, I also worked on enhancing my diet by cutting out sugar and limiting the intake of carbohydrates, and ended up losing seven kilos before I left for the US, a few months later," says the actor, who subsequently trained in the gym for a few weeks before the lockdown was imposed.

Unwilling to let her toil go to waste, Dutta decided to take to intermittent fasting, thereby reducing the window of consuming food to eight hours a day, while simultaneously eliminating all forms of carbohydrates, and sugars from her diet.

"During this period, I was living in the hills in the US. I had no access to Indian ingredients, and would hence eat European-style meals like soups, salads, and baked fish. For five months, I didn't even have sugar at home and did not consume milk. The place that I resided in allowed me to head for a walk, or go hiking in the hills, whenever I desired," says Dutta, who subsequently lost more weight over the five-month period.

Ask her how she continues to stick to her European diet, now that she is back in the country, and Dutta says she is now naturally drawn to healthy alternatives. "I still don't eat rice and roti, and have turned to eating quinoa, and sabudana khichdi instead. They are low in carbs, and gluten-free. Also, I make delicious soups. Anyone who consumes them will not crave for rice or roti. I still continue to head for my daily walks," says the actor, terming the weight-loss as only the beginning of what she has set out to achieve. "I will work on attaining definition and a chiselled frame."

Sachin Pilgaonkar on daughter Shriya's name been dragged in nepotism debate: I am a human, even I have a heart

The age-old debate on nepotism and groupism has reinvigorated after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14. The debate has exploded on social media over the last few weeks and a lot of television and Hindi film actors have been talking about it and how Bollywood functions. Several celebrities have also spoken about the dark side of showbiz. There has been an increased hostility towards Bollywood, as the late actor's fans believe he was wronged by the industry and deprived of opportunities.

Veteran actor Sachin Pilgoankar also expressed his thoughts on the nepotism debate. The actor said he was angered by the way her daughter-actress Shriya Pilgoankar's name was dragged into this issue. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, "All these things are very natural to happen, and we do get irritated by a few things here and there. Fortunately, all of us are together, and start pacifying one another, whoever has lost their cool! Others are there to put a hand on the shoulder. But I will never lie to you by saying I don’t get pissed off. I am a human being, I am not a saint yaar, I have a heart.”

The actor also said that he never asked her daughter to pursue acting. It was her decision. "Advice is given to me, by her. In today’s age, you cannot keep on teaching them how to do, what to do. Children have their own life and methods, one must not interfere in that. She is our daughter, but if I felt she was not good in this field as an actor, we would have told her point blank. We wouldn’t have kept quiet or keep praising her just because she is our daughter, we are not those kind of people. But fortunately, even we are appreciating what she is doing. There is no reason for us to advise her,” added Pilgaonkar.

In an earlier interview with IANS, Shriya had spoken about how her parents have always been a great source of inspiration. "I feel blessed to be their daughter. They both have inspired me a lot. From discussing cinema to giving advice, they have always helped me through my thick and thin," she said.

Sachin Pilgoankar isn't the only actor who has lashed out at netizens targetting star kids. In a recent interview, Pankaj Tripathi had said that people should have empathy and kindness inside them. The veteran actor said, "We, as humans, should have empathy and kindness inside us. At the same time, one doesn’t decide where they are going to be born, it’s not in our hands. I know right now, the entire world has below average sensibility, and making the facts reach people through social media is difficult".

The Newton actor added, "Filmi parivaar ke bachhon ko advantage hai ki unko platform bauhaut asaani se mil jaayega (Star kids have the advantage of getting a platform early in their lives). I’ve been acting for 24 years now. It could have been that in place of me, some film family kid would have been recognised right from their first film. But for them to survive, talent is necessary. After Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Monday onwards the public comes to see the film, not because someone is a producer, director or star’s kid. Even if it’s an average film, it could be average for us, but a big chunk of India’s public could consider it above that."

Coming back to Shriya, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2016-film Fan was last seen in web series Crackdown. She shared screen space with Saqib Salim, Iqbal Khan, Waluscha De Sousa, Rajesh Tailang, and Ankur Bhatia in the digital series. She will be next seen in Mirzapur 2.

Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury: Want to start a discussion with Priyanka Chopra Jonas again

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has several international projects on her plate, including the Amazon Prime Video series Citadel. But if the actor is on the lookout for a Hindi film outing, she need not look any further than filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. Post the success of Pink (2016), the director was in advanced talks with Chopra for a suspense thriller. While the project did not materialise then, Chowdhury — who is back on the Hindi film circuit with the short film, Rules of the Game — says he is keen to revisit the subject with the actor.

"That script is still with me. If given a chance, I would like to start the discussion again. I would love to do the film with Priyanka because she is a fascinating actress," says the director, adding that he will need some time to "reconstruct the script."

Chowdhury

The duo had several discussions in 2017, with rumours suggesting that Chopra had liked the story so much that she was keen to co-produce the film. Ask him why the movie hit a roadblock, and Chowdhury says, "Priyanka got busy with a show in the US then. She had several other commitments as well."

For now though, the National Award-winning director is neck-deep in prep for his next that goes on floors in January 2021. "It is a social thriller. Shoojit [Sircar, producer of Pink] and I will collaborate soon, but I have committed to another studio for this movie. Shoojit is a friend; we spoke about 15 days ago and he asked me about my future films."

The show will air for its usual 1 hour duration Monday to Friday at 10.30 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 9pm starting 3rd October”.

Well, that is some good news for the fans. As of now, only Jaan Kumar Sanu has been confirmed as the contestant for Bigg Boss 14.
